At the 1997 ACP AGM, several members noted the lack of people ready to assume leadership positions in Canadian publishing, while at the same time publishers expressed an interest in acquiring skills from their more experienced colleagues in the industry.
These concerns resulted in the creation of the ACP Mentorship Program. One of the main goals of the program is to provide an opportunity for publishers to work in a focused and intensive way with a larger or more senior publisher on a specific aspect of their business. This program essentially aims to offer publishers of all sizes an opportunity to directly learn from each other.
Am I eligible?
All Associate and Active ACP members in good standing are invited to apply as mentees.
Applying for a mentorship is easy: once you have decided on an area in which you would like to receive mentoring, contact Sarah Labrie at sarah_labrie@canbook.org for an application.
Spaces are now open for mentorship sessions in 2009-2010. Mentorships are available on a first-come first-served basis, so apply today!
Once you have been matched with a mentor in your field of interest you will be asked to fill out a detailed questionnaire on your consultation subject. This information will be forwarded to the Mentor, and they may then ask you for additional documentation to help them prepare for the session. Those publishers who provide basic information ahead of time to the Mentor will gain considerably more from the program.
