TRILLIUM AWARDS — Six English-language and five French-language books have been shortlisted for the 17 th annual Trillium Book Award/Prix Trillium, the province's prestigious award for literature.
The finalists for the Trillium Book Award for Poetry were also announced today, with three English and two French-language titles making the shortlist. This is the second year of the Trillium Book Award for Poetry, created to recognize achievement by new, emerging poets for their first, second, or third book of poetry.
The Trillium Book Award/Prix Trillium is a significant investment in encouraging investment in Ontario literature. English and French recipients receive $20,000. Each winning publisher receives $2500 to promote their author. The winner of the poetry award receives $10,000, with $2000 for his or her publisher.
Minister of Culture Madeleine Meilleur will announce the winners in Toronto on May 4, 2004.
