UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA PRESS LAUNCHES NEW VIRTUAL STORE TO RIVAL AMAZON! —
Booklovers worldwide can now purchase hundreds of titles published by The University of Alberta Press (UAP) at its new virtual store located on the Press' website at www.uap.ualberta.ca. UAP is one of the first Canadian university presses to embark on the technological adventure of selling its books on the Internet. Long-term success by competitors such as Amazon and Chapters indicates there is definitely a demand for online bookstore services. The explosion of the Internet and the World Wide Web has resulted in immediate access to global customers who are interested in buying books, particularly niche-market ones. Sales have been steadily increasing and have been truly global. After conducting a beta test of the online store this past summer, UAP more than made back its costs within a three-month period. Sales have come from all over the world, including Australia. Customers visiting the UAP website will find the store is just a mouse click away, where they can select from an eclectic assortment of UAP titles and choose how quickly they want their books to be shipped to them. Whether interested customers are local or international-based, visiting the store has proven to be a smooth, stress-free experience and UAP looks forward to meeting more and more of its customers online as a result of this exciting new business method. For more information, please contact Cathie Crooks, Sales/Marketing Manager, University of Alberta Press, P: 780.492.5820, E: ccrooks@ualberta.ca.
